The Community Outreach ministry of the Church of the Epiphany is Solomon House, a mission of the parish established in 1996. This mission provides support, wisdom and guidance for anyone in need. Solomon House is a 501-C-3 non-profit organization. In keeping with the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, it welcomes all, judges none, and works to foster peace and caring.

WHAT IS SOLOMON HOUSE?

Our goal is to make visible the invisible Love of God through established programs that offer both material and spiritual assistance to those in need.

WHAT ARE THE PROGRAMS OF SOLOMON HOUSE?

Our programs include Brown Bag, Emergency Assistance, and a partnership program with Healthy Kids. We also have a beautiful labyrinth for meditation.

The House also serves as a meeting place for Alcoholics Anonymous groups, and other civic and church groups.

In 2002, Solomon House received the Broussard award from the Ministerial Association for Christ-like service in the community of New Iberia for outstanding service to the needy.

 WHAT DO THESE PROGRAMS DO?

Brown Bag is our oldest program, formed in 1983, and has had
several homes until 1996 when
Solomon House was established. Every week approximately 160 bags of groceries are given out to anyone who states they are in need. Bags are filled with staples such as various bread, vegetables, fruits and canned goods donated by individuals, by Doyle's Foods, Epiphany Day School, and Episcopal School of Acadiana and bought from local grocers and Second Harvest. Bags packing is done by volunteers every Monday afternoon.

The elderly living in the subsidized housing of School House Apartments across the street from Solomon House are provided with groceries.

Emergency Assistance provides small checks for utilities, emergency housing, and prescription drugs, as donations permit, the first two Tuesdays of each month.

Healthy Kids is a partner organization of Solomon House that is sponsored by the Family Tree. Through grant support Solomon House provides nutritional support for families with infants and children in need who are cases of the Healthy Kids organization.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

With your time, money, and/or other donations, you can make big differences in the lives of the people we serve. If you have time to help pack food on Monday afternoons, distribute bags of food on Tuesday mornings, pick up donated foods, maintain our garden, or serve on the board, please contact Minister Ellen Nora (364-7798). Your name will be put into a pool to be called on occasionally.

Help comes in all forms. Children from Epiphany Day School made some pens and sold them to raise funds for the mission

If you want to donate money to this worthwhile cause, we can use it to buy food and supplies. If you have items to donate for the yard sales Solomon House holds several times a year to raise money, contact Minister Ellen Nora. If you have any other negotiable items to donate or wish to leave a bequest, contact Minister Ellen Nora. To raise additional funding for Solomon House, each year, the Executive Director and Board of Directors hold an Annual Appeal campaign and a gala event featuring brunch, a silent auction, and music at Marsh House, Avery Island, Louisiana.

Additional funding from foundation, government, and diocesan grants have furthered the work of Solomon House.
